Nice Ride in Boulder, CO

We went to Boulder, CO for the weekend, thanks to Amex and hotel points. When there the wife said, "Say Jerkstore, what you say we do a little mountain biking while in Boulder?" What, are you kidding me? Yeah! So we went to Boulder Bikesmith to rent some bikes. Unfortunately, as the mutton-chopped Bikesmith explained, they had received tons of rain and the trails were washed out. (You know it's a good bike shop when the guy waiting on you is out of the mainstream but is super eager to help you, even though you don't look like a bike messenger.)
I asked how mountain bike trails could be too bad to ride. The skinny little werewolf man said that when people ride on muddy trails, they cause erosion. They want these trails around for a long time, so when they are wet, people stay off. What, are you kidding me? These people are for real. I like this place, because it's a great bike city.

The furry bikesmith suggested we rent city bikes and ride the trails around town. I thought Minneapolis had a lot of bike trails. Boulder has more. We got out and started riding and soon got to a point where we had to make a decision on which way to go. Too many options. Boulder proper to the west, and nice meadows and the reservoir to the east. We went east. There were a lot of major roads along the way, but they weren't a problem because the paths go under the streets. We got lost a couple of times as there are a lot of different trails that crisscross each other. At one point we come across a field full of prairie dogs being entertained by a guy playing a sax. I really wished I had a camera with me. At another point we were riding parallel to the front range. We stopped and just stared for a while. We then found ourselves heading towards downtown, so Cynthia suggested she get a local brew at a microbrewery. After Cynthia had a fine local brew and we downed two giant soft pretzels with queso, the ride was taken out of us, so we rode back to the shop to return the bikes.

What a cool bike town. I'm looking forward to going back.
